It is the fourth largest municipality in the State with a population of 78,988 residents, and continues to grow. Mount Pleasant is one of the few municipalities nationwide with accredited Police (1992), Fire (2001), and Planning (2013) Departments. Mount Pleasant has received recognition for 26 consecutive years by the Government Finance Officers Association for excellence in Financial Reporting. In 2010, Mount Pleasant won the prestigious All- America City designation from the National Civic League.
