This network of agents has become an extension of the bank's hands to provide financial services to people living in remote areas, who previously had difficulty accessing financial services, as well as channeling social assistance from the government. Compared to building branch offices or ATM facilities, agent networks are believed to be a more cost-effective solution to reach people in remote areas.
